“Beerproof” boots: Timberland and Sam Adams launch one-of-a-kind shoes

These boots aren’t just for walking. These boots will also help you open beer bottles.
Every once in a while, brands swing for fences in ways we never thought possible. They redefine the whole paradigm of a product category with a claim so unique that you wonder, “Is this a good idea? And this week, Timberland solved a problem we didn’t know we had.
Meet the Direct Attach – from what we can tell, the world’s first “beer tight boot”.
Before going any further, we would like to paraphrase Ian Malcolm, the skeptical mathematician from the movie “Jurassic Park”: “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, that they didn’t stop to think whether they should.”
But damn it, Timberland went and did it. Thanks to the marriage of two iconic New England brands, you can now spill Samuel Adams on your brand new Timberland PRO boots and sweatshirt without even batting an eyelid. Why? Because they are beer proof, that’s why.
Additionally, the brands have launched a whole collection of drinkable beers.
Snark aside, these are actual products, launching today, around a marketing campaign based on the premise that your current boots won’t be enough. And for that moxie, dear Timberland and Sam Adams, respect.
Here’s what we know so far.
Timberland x Samuel Adams Beer Drinkin’ Outfit
the Timberland PRO x Samuel Adams Collection contains three products: the Timberland PRO x Samuel Adams Direct Attach Boots, a hoodie and a T-shirt. Note that there are no pants in the collection. Thus, we have to assume that your current drinking pants will suffice. That or no pants, no problem! Your interpretation is as good as ours. Local laws apply.
So, let’s start with the boots. According to the initial pitch, the Timberland PRO x Samuel Adams Direct Attach Boots have “beer-proof technology.” For this, we scoffed and launched the brand to investigate for more details. The facts, straight from Timberland:
- Waterproof leather with seam-sealed waterproof construction
- Protection against electrical risks
- Contoured shock-diffusing plate for structural support
- Polyurethane footbed with anti-fatigue technology for shock absorption and energy return
- Padded top collar for added comfort
- Breathable, moisture-wicking lining with antimicrobial treatment for odor control
- Direct injection construction for durability
- Non-marking rubber outsole is heat, oil, slip and abrasion resistant
- 30 day comfort guarantee
Or, as the marketing team puts it, “ready for any spirited drinking session.” Each pair comes with a handy, co-branded bottle opener to open a Sam Adams. Get a pair for $180.
Beyond the boots, you can get a hoodie with durable, water-repellent dual-sleeve graphics—welcome, dribble—and woven label branding at the hem. It’s comfortable, cozy, not bad andof course, beer proof, for $75.
And finally, in organic cotton, comes the Open-End Jersey shirt. Also with durable water repellency, here’s a shirt for backyard bonfires, pool or beach parties, and cheering on your little ones at their soccer games.
The entire range is limited edition. But meanwhile, catch ’em while they’re hot trotting!
